India public holidays in 2023-2024 announced, with 5 long weekends
The Government of India has announced the dates of public holidays for 2024, with five long weekends.
Of the 12 public holidays next year, five will fall on a Friday, Saturday, or Monday. The second day of Eid al-Fitr falls on a Saturday, so the following Monday will also be a public holiday.
Here is the full list of public holidays in India in 2024:
- Republic Day - Friday, January 26
- Mahavir Jayanti - Sunday, April 21
- Good Friday - Friday, March 29
- Eid al-Fitr - Monday, April 12
- Ram Navami - Wednesday, April 17
- Buddha Purnima - Thursday, May 23
- Eid al-Adha - Monday, June 17
- Independence Day - Thursday, August 15
- Janmashtami - Monday, August 26
- Gandhi Jayanti - Wednesday, October 2
- Dussehra - Tuesday, October 16
- Diwali - Wednesday, November 7
- Guru Nanak Jayanti - Saturday, November 23
- Christmas Day - Wednesday, December 25
The five long weekends in 2024 are:
- January 26-29 (Republic Day and the following weekend)
- April 12-15 (Eid al-Fitr and the following weekend)
- April 17-21 (Ram Navami and the following weekend)
- June 15-17 (Eid al-Adha and the following weekend)
- October 16-21 (Dussehra and the following weekend)
With five long weekends to look forward to, Indians will have plenty of opportunities to travel, relax, and spend time with their loved ones in 2024.
